Epitome

Epitome Pictures Inc. (later known as DHX Studios Toronto) was a television production company that was based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the successor of Playing With Time Inc..

History[]

Founded in 1992 by Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn, it was the successor of Playint With Time, INC. which was founded by Linda and Kit Hood which produced The Kids of Degrassi Steet, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High, and School's Out!. By 1995, they bought their first studio. The President of Epitome was Stephen Stohn, and the COO was Linda Schuyler.

In 2014, it was acquired by DHX Media, causing it to be renamed DHX Media Toronto in 2016. In 2019, it was was rebranded as WildBrain in 2019.

Production History[]

Epitome produced two television drama series aimed primarily at the youth and young-adult market and was licensed to over 150 countries around the world. Instant Star was similarly broadcast on CTV and The N(TeenNick, and was licensed to over 120 countries worldwide. The final episode of Instant Star aired on June 26, 2008.

Other television series that Epitome or its sister companies have produced in the past include Liberty Street, Riverdale (English Canada's first prime-time soap-opera), and previous incarnations of the Degrassi series including The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High and the movie-of-the-week School's Out!, as well as mini TV sitcom Open Heart (2015).
