"He did a stupid thing. When you love something, someone, you went after it. You didn't hesitate. So why you made such a huge mark on the people around you... that's why there are so many people here to say goodbye." |
Young Forever is the eighth episode of Season 13, as well as the summer finale. It aired on August 22, 2013.
Summary
As the summer comes to a tragic end, Becky tries to make a tragedy end in a way everyone will remember. Drew is in a slump after the death of his brother, while Clare finds out she is cancer free for now.
Main Plot
Eli, Becky, Bianca, and Dallas watch the visitors pay their respects to Adamās family after the funeral. Eli comments how so many people came and Dallas adds that everyone loved him. Bianca questions why Adam had to die and why the doctors didnāt save him, to which Becky replies, āI guess Jesus wanted him close.ā Eli and Bianca glare at her and the latter says Beckyās response was stupid. After Bianca goes over to Drew, Becky walks over to apologize for what she said. Drew then blames Becky for Adamās death because he was texting her right before he crashed. This leaves Becky in tears and declines Dallasā offer to bring her to the burial.
Alli, Jenna, and Connor find Becky crying on the bench and try comforting her. Becky then gets an idea to have a bonfire for Adam. Later that day, the four of them finish setting up and wait for the guests to arrive. Time passes and Becky believes no one is going to come, mostly because she sent out the invite and Adamās friends supposedly donāt like her. However, everyone starts coming out and Imogen says more people are coming and it will be a full house. Dave adds that this bonfire is what everyone needs right now.
As the bonfire goes on, friends reunite and everyone reminisces about Adam. Everyone watch the memorial video that Eli and Clare put together. Becky is then seen saying her final goodbye to Adam. The episode ends with a lantern being lit up and sent up in the sky.
Subplot
Drew is clearly not taking Adamās death well. After the funeral, he is seen playing video games as Imogen, Dave, Dallas, and Bianca come over. Dave tries to make conversation but it causes Drew to walk out in tears. Later he is sitting out on the porch when Bianca comes out to try to comfort him. He expresses he wants his brother back and blames himself for his death. Bianca tells Drew about the bonfire and that it might be a good thing for him to go, but he says he needs to be alone and leaves.
Drew is walking in the streets crying when he takes out his phone, scrolling through peopleās posts about Adam, including one from Fiona. He sees the memorial video that Clare posted and watches it. He smiles at the memories of Adam and decides to go to the bonfire. Once he shows up, Dallas greets him. Drew asks how they get through this. He walks over to the chair that Becky had for Adam and he says his goodbye to him.
Third Plot
Clare starts to feel guilty about Adam dying and how she is still alive. Her and Eli put together a memorial video for Adam, and as theyāre putting it together, Helen walks in. She says Clareās scan came back clean and she is cancer free for now. Eli suggests they go to the bonfire to bring them some good news. Clare is reluctant at first because she doesnāt want to take attention away from Adam, but is convinced otherwise. Jenna, Alli, and Connor are all happy to see her and they continue to celebrate Adam.
