The conflict between Liberty Van Zandt and Mia Jones began in the sixth season of Degrassi: The Next Generation. However, by Season 7 they seemed to have ended their rivalry and they are both on good terms.

Conflict History[]

Overview[]

The conflict between Mia and Liberty began in What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (1), when Liberty becomes jealous of the attention Mia receives from J.T. and tells her about everything J.T. did during the previous year. Sometime before Sweet Child O' Mine, they were on good terms with each other.

Season 6[]

In What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (1), at The Dot, Liberty tells Mia about J.T.'s past and their relationship which upsets Mia.

In Rock This Town, Liberty gets upset when J.T. admits he loves Mia, though J.T. later decides to break up with Mia and go back to Liberty, though he ultimately doesn't get to because he is stabbed and killed while out trying to find Liberty.

In The Bitterest Pill, Mia and Liberty both attend J.T.'s funeral. Liberty mentions to Toby that everyone expects her to be sobbing like Mia but she isn't. At school when Liberty, Mia and Toby clean out J.T.'s locker, Mia starts taking out the majority of J.T.'s things and puts them in her bag and they ask why she's taking everything to herself, then Mia fires back at Liberty saying she didn't even care about J.T. and didn't cry at his funeral. She calls her a robot and Liberty leaves mad. When the memorial goes on Toby tells Mia that J.T. was in love with Liberty which makes Mia angry and says that J.T. called her Liberty 3000 and hated her then walks off until Liberty asks for the tape Mia wanted to be played at the memorial. At the end of the episode Mia, Liberty and Toby clean out J.T.'s locker together, suggesting they all seem to be on a friendly level.

In If You Leave, Liberty and Mia both tell Lakehurst to leave Degrassi due to the trauma J.T.'s death brought them.

Season 7[]

In Sweet Child O' Mine, after a committee meeting about the Spring Fever Spirit Squad Fundraiser Dance, Mia asks Liberty for leftover decorations from a school dance for her daughter Isabella Jones' birthday party. Liberty asks if she means she wants to siphon school resources and Mia says parties can be expensive. Liberty smiles and tells Mia to say no more. She adds in pig latin, "FYI, there are more 'alloons-bay in the oset-clay.'" Mia says she's a "'ife-saver-lay'" with a smile and hugs Liberty. Liberty smiles and accepts the hug though as she walks away she looks a bit uncomfortable. Mia watches her go with a smile. When Mia's crush stops interacting with her after he finds out she's a mom, Liberty comforts Mia by telling her to forget him and that she doesn't need him. Mia says she's lonely and that the only guy that's going to look at her is Lucas. Liberty assures her she can do better than that fight-picking bully. Mia admits that he's Isabella's dad and Liberty is surprised. Mia says she can't do anything right but Liberty says she's doing a great job juggling Spirit Squad and pick ups from daycare which reminds Mia she's late to pick up Isabella and she runs out.
